Overview

According to the 2001 census there are 672 same-sex households in the borough of Croydon, with an estimated 20,370 LGBT population. Croydon has the largest population of all the London boroughs, and its neighbouring boroughs include Sutton, Merton, Lambeth and Bromley. The borough is made up of 24 wards; Addiscombe, Ashburton, Bensham Manor, Broad Green, Coulsdon East, Coulsdon West, Croham, Fairfield, Fieldway, Heathfield,  Kenley, New Addington, Norbury, Purley, Sanderstead, Selhurst, Selsdon & Ballards, Shirley, South Norwood, Thornton Heath, Upper Norwood, Waddon, West Thornton and Woodside,

Political make-up

There are 70 councillors representing the people of Croydon; 37 of which are from the Conservative party, and the remaining 33 from the Labour party. The leader of the council is Mike Fisher, and councillor Vidhi Mohan is the cabinet member responsible for communities.

The Members of Parliament for the area are as follows:

  • Gavin Barwell (Conservative), Croydon Central constituency
  • Malcolm Wicks (Labour), Croydon North constituency
  • Richard Ottaway (Conservative), Croydon South constituency
