Overview

Brent is a West London borough with an estimated LGBT population of 15,807 and 410 same-sex households according to the 2001 census. The borough is made up of 21 wards; Alperton, Barnhill, Brondesbury Park, Dollis Hill, Dudden Hill, Fryent, Harlesden, Kensal Green, Kenton, Kilburn, Mapesbury, Northwich Park, Preston, Queens Park, Queensbury, Stonebridge, Sudbury, Tokyngton, Welsh Harp, Wembley Central and Willesden Green.

Political make-up

There are 63 councillors elected to represent the people of Brent. Brent is a Labour-controlled council with 40 of its councillors elected from the Labour party. The leader of the Council and Executive is Ann John OBE. Councillor Lesley Jones is the lead member for human resources and diversity, local democracy and consultation on the Executive. The Mayor of Brent - chosen by a vote of councillors - is Harbhajan Singh.
